Seeing the world through new eyes One of my favorite things about having a new puppy is getting to rediscover all the things I take for granted in daily life. This morning was a standout.
While Tallulah and I were getting breakfast (me warming her food in the microwave, she tearing around the kitchen) her bell stopped tinkling so I looked around expecting to catch her pooping in the wrong place. She was plastered against the wall with her neck stretched out as far as it could go and the strangest expression on her face. Well, after her playpen escape last night I was worried about injuries and my heart just sank.
Then I realized she was leaning on the heater vent enjoying the warm air. We turned on the heater last night - the first time we've needed it since we got her. That look that I thought was pain turned out to be ecstasy. I wish I had had my camera to catch that moment.
The heater cycled off soon and her expression turned indignant. She started pawing and biting at the vent cover till I had to pick her up.
Later we were in the bathroom and the heater cycled on again. Same response. So now she realizes that it's not just that one spot in the kitchen, but anywhere there is a vent cover. So naturally we had to explore all the walls in the house to check out the vents. It really is pretty miraculous when you stop to think about it, that warm air can come out of those funny looking holes in the wall.
Saturday we are going to Scooba the kitchen floor. I'm going to have the video camera ready for that one. |
