How big is the crate? It should only be big enough for him to lie down and turn around in.. any bigger and he will potty in the crate because he can sleep at the other end away from the mess.
You should put the crate in your bedroom so he feels your company, this will relax him.
He will eventually like the crate and see it as his den, he will cry at first because hes young and not used to it.. give him a treat when he goes into the crate and he will learn to like it. Good luck!
