The trying to figure how to ask this uncomfortable question was driving me nuts. I appreciate it so much. Now I can start planning

My sister-in-law and brother had asked me to take their human children in the event of their passing and I said, 'absolutely'. I waited for them to ask me about their "fur-babies" (how they refer to their dogs), but the question never came. I thought maybe they just thought it would be too much for me

, 3 teenage girls and 3 dogs (one of them, a Chihuahua, very old and blind named Judith).

I though, great, I could ask them to take my fur-babies. Well, while my brother was away on business, Judith was hit by a car and passed away. To my shocking surprise, I learned that my sister-in-law had put Judith in a plastic garbage bag and dumped her in some bushes near their house

I thought my brother would get home (a day later) and there would be major trouble for her, he would demand she bring Judith home for proper arrangements, she would see the evil of her action, repent, cry and then do the right thing. After all, Judith had been with them for 14+ years, right?

Nope, nothing happened. Judith was 'just a dog' and disposed of like the trash. My heart broke

I was disappointed, angry, and sadden on many levels. I saw them in a brand new (dark) light...'the true character of a man/woman in the treatment of their pets...'

Unfortunately, the thought that 'they're just dogs' is shared by all in my and hb's families (my sis-in-law (UGH!) just happen to verify the worst of it for me) and I wouldn't put past them the heartless action of of this woman.

But, at least now I know who definitely will go on my 'NO NOT TOUCH MY BABIES!!!' list and I can start planning, just in case.
