Tails are done between 3 & 5 days. However, an additional factor should be taken into consideration. Weight. I never have them docked if the pups were premature and/or reaches 6 to 7 ounces. I have docked them at 7 days on a premature litter.
The risk of infection is a very low & and if it does occur it is isolated and can be handled with ebson salt and warm water baths. Bleeding if any is minimal. I've yet to have any.
