17 years wow! That is a long fullfilled life. You have been blessed having him so long.
If he is in pain and suffering in any way I feel he deserves an easier way to go. I know this is a very difficult topic and very hard on you. But I feel we always owe our fur babies what is best for them.
They give us so much in life, and I just feel we owe them the same.
