Oh, I'm so sorry. Fortunately, my Yorkie is only a baby. BUT, I have a 13 year old schnauzer who has arthritis very bad in his back legs. It is affecting his nerves and he has very little muscle in his back haunches. I talked to the vet just last month about how do you know when the time is up. My vet said to look at the quality of HIS life - not what I want - but what his life quality is like. Can he rest, can he eat, can he go outside, does he seem to enjoy the family - my vet said to ask these questions and that I will know in my heart when the time is up.

He gave me new medicine which I can give for a month and then have to stop for awhile. Today I was late giving it to him and he could hardly walk after a few hours and he was whimpering when he walked. After just an hour or so when I gave him the medicine, he was so much better. But tomorrow is the last pill I have and I just know by the next day, he is going to be hurting. I will be calling the vet to see if I can get some more medicine and if so, when I can give it to him and for how long. If I can't, ........

It is so hard, but try to think about the quality of your baby's life - when the quality is poor, then it may be time...........
