Definately keeping the private area trimmed is important. You might also look at what you are feeding. You should not always have a mess back there. I will sometimes give mine a quick wipe when they come in from doing their business but usually there is nothing noticeable. If you feed a good quality dog food, they are normally "low-residue" -- meaning tiny little tootsie roll poops that do not mess their behinds. That alone would be worth the extra cost, not to mention how much better it is for the little ones.
But they all will have the occasional loose stool. Then the baby wipes are just the ticket! But for that horrible semi-loose one that they seem to have sat in and stuck their hair to .... good luck. Those take a soaking and rubber gloves! Hope I never find one of those again!
