Snarky w/the BIG dog My son has an American Mastiff puppy, Dozer (90 pounds), who is two weeks older than Dante (Biewer, 5 pounds, 6 months old). We also have two Kerry Blue Terriers (34 and 41 pounds). I know that the two puppies must be closely supervised at all times, since though Dozer is sweet as can be, a misplaced paw or pounce could be tragic.
The problem I've been having this weekend, though, is that if I'm holding Dante (frequently the easiest way to keep him safe) and Dozer comes near (or I go near Dozer), Dante snarls and snaps at him! Dozer has done nothing to provoke this, and usually doesn't even seem to notice. Nevertheless, it's horrid behavior on Dante's part, on general principles.
Not to mention the fact that if Dozer were to respond in kind, both Dante and I could get bitten - all because Dante's acting snarky for no reason. Any advice would be welcome. I want to teach him to be well-behaved around all dogs. |
