A very easy pattern is Kwik Sew 3260. It is discontinued, but sometimes you can find it on eBay. I use fleece, so only need to sew a neck seam and Velcro. It wraps around the tummy and keeps them dry. It can be worn as a nightie or outside for a coat. If made of fleece, you can even cut a little slit to slip the D ring of the harness through. Sometimes I double the fleece and just sew around the edges with a decorative zig zag stitch. The pattern is in 5 sizes. I even made a fleece wrap for a larger dog (pointer).
