My mother has had a rough time of it since her stroke back in 1997. We didn't know what was happening with her the past few years. We thought the stroke was just taking its toll. Well, it was. Last year we found out she has vascular dementia and has more than likely had it for many years and we just didn't know any better. She has been on and off Hospice for the past few years for Failure to Thrive since my dad's death in 2006. Hospice just recently changed her diagnosis to Dementia.
I noticed last week that everything about mamma has definitely changed. She sleeps all of the time, will not communicate with us anymore, not eating or drinking enough to keep a fly alive. She is letting go!
And my heart is breaking.
Hospice said if she keeps this up and doesn't bounce back like she has always done in the past, then she may have 2 months to live. And what a horrible 2 months it will be for her. Starvation is what robs the lives of dementia victims. They don't know to eat. Their brains just don't operate anymore. The brain cells are destroyed. It's a horrible, horrible disease.
What makes this whole thing hurt even more is that she didn't recognize me today. I'm in such pain right now that I can barely see to type this post.
Please pray for her and for my entire family. Pray that God will just let her go to sleep and not let her go through the horrible pain this disease can cause.
