I agree with the idea of an exercise pen since you live in an apartment. I have a 11 week old yorkie and even when I'm only gone for 5 hours at the most, I still leave her in the exercise pen instead of just her crate. I line the exercise pen with puppy pads and leave her crate in one corner and food and water in the other corner. She hasn't peed or pooped in her crate with this system.
