I would take in stool samples from both for testing just to rule out any parasites.

Now this may not apply in your situation but how often do you wash their food bowls? I ask because the past few months I've observed something here that I thought may be the cause of some other member's dogs occasional diarrhea.

I used to wash bowls once, in the evenings, after having fed them twice during the day/evening. I would rinse out their bowls in between feedings but not use soap. Occasionally one of the dogs here would get a loose stool, sometimes diarrhea. I always attributed it to something they ate while outside, like grass.

A few months back I started disinfecting (soap/bleach) their bowls after each meal. Since then loose stools or diarrhea has only happened once and I knew that was from table food they shouldn't have been fed. I think sometimes bacteria would grow on their bowls and upset their digestive systems.

Btw, I use a combination of home prepared and dry kibble. The point being I think bacteria can grow from either type of food source.
