Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder, enter the breed and your zip code and you'll see a list of Yorkies that are near you. But PLEASE be patient. Many of the rescues and shelters that list their animals are run exclusively by volunteers who are involved with rescue as a labor of love. They can take a week or more to respond to your inquiry. I had submitted an application for a dog and didn't hear from them for almost three weeks. But my little Tina was well worth the wait.
Also,, often the rescues are very particular about matching up their animals with adopters. Their dogs have often been through alot already, so they are very careful about placing them again. You may not get the first dog you apply for. For example, if you apply for an older dog that has never been in a home with another dog, the rescue may decide that it should remain an only dog and not want to approve it to a home with a puppy. Please don't take these decisions personally, the rescues are doing what they think is best for THEIR dog. The short bios on Petfinder.com don't always have space for them to describe their animal completely, so there may be some reasons that it's not a good match that they haven't written about. Keep trying and eventually you'll find a good playmate for your puppy.
