Rule # 1 : Yorkies are "inside the house" pets. They shouldnt be left in the yard as
the gate watchdog like a big dog
Rule # 2 : Put a bell on your yorkie's collar for a "ting-a-ling" sound as she moves
about. Be alert to notice the presence or absence of the "ting-a-ling". At
first, the sound may drive you crazy. But soon enough, you'll get used to it.
Rule # 3 : Yorkies run so fast and are love to chase almost anything. Especially at
parks and other open spaces, keep your yorkie leashed. You can improvise
a long leash if you want him to have a wider run circumference. I was able
to buy a 15 meter leash but it gets tangled up. I think 3 to 5 meters is
enough to allow your pet to move around and you can still keep an eye on
him.
Rule # 4 : Keep the leash strapped to your wrist (not to the stroller or the parkbench or the tree, or anywhere else. It is important that it is attached to you
so that you can feel the tugging all the time.
Rule # 5 : Have a secret "come" word that only you and your yorkie should know.
Try not to associate "Come", with whistling, or baiting with a treat. Use
an "off" word like "dingdong" or "spoon", etc. This way, no matter how
skillful the yorkie-nappers may get, and with so many "off" words in the
world, it will take a while for him to decipher the code.
