This is a bit awful to mention... but serves a purpose as a warning: cat collars don't always break away when they are suppose to. We had a cat (many years ago) get it caught on a chain link fence, with unfortunate results. For our Yorkie puppies when we brought them home we just got the smallest dog collar and added a bell to help us hear them as not to step on them. They also make (very inexpensive) little dog collars made of a soft nylon material that you can cut to size (and shear/melt the ends with a lighter to prevent fraying). They come in a variety of colors and when our dogs were puppies I bought them in an array of colors for fun because they were so cheap. ... of course that led to matching leashes, harnesses, and color coordinating clothes...!
