I wish to heck they would ban tail docking here. I don't buy the theory that it doesn't hurt it they are less than 5 days old: after all, it's an amputation of bone. The medical community used to think that preemies couldn't feel pain either because they didn't always cry when they had procedures done- thankfully we now know that there are other signs of pain/distress besides crying and we've come a long way in pain management for them.
