I have done tails and with the clamp method they don't even hardly cry. I an having problems justifing dew claws. I think they hurt them bad. I have a couple with dew claws and as long as they are trimmed with the nails regular never been a problem.
Vet usually waits until about day three, but the smaller the dog you can go a few days longer (per vet); however, by day two, they hardly gave a whimper, stitches and all. I think it's best to get it done as soon as possible as every day is a day the nerves, et al become more 'tuned' and thus more pain. Day two, day three...not enough time to concern oneself...as it's literally hours in measurement of difference.
