Getting a puppy will not guarantee that you don't get a nipper/biter. Some dogs, even when treated well, will still develop those problems- especially if they are taken from the dam/litter too early.
As previously stated, what you see in a puppy is no guarantee of having a certain "look" as an adult. Unless you are planning on showing, you would do better focusing on the temperament of the dog and it's dam and sire.
Also, how old is your son? There are some reputable breeders who will rule you out if he is too young, out of concern for the dog's safety.
