The price really doesn't say much about the quality. It's not unusual to pay several thousand dollars for a Yorkie puppy from a pet store. Pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills for a few hundred dollars and mark the price way up.
Many backyard breeders and other breeders who do not show and just breed pet quality Yorkies charge as much as show breeders.
If you want a great representation of the breed, I'd stick with the YTCA list which can lead you to other lesser known show breeders.
There are lots of California breeders on the YTCA list and two from Nevada.

You might want to contact Mary (YT name Mardelin). She is in S. California which I know is far from you, but I bet she could recommend some breeders to contact. Mary is very, very helpful - a real asset to YT!
