A lot of products actually have wax in them, that's what makes the hair feel silky and smooth because the wax coats the hair - makes the hair FEEL better, but it isn't actually healing the hair or making it healthy.

Basically, our shampoo gets the hair shaft clean, while leaving the natural oils, and the hair follicle expands. This gives you the "waxy" feeling - the hair shafts have expanded and the scales on the hair shafts may actually be sticking out.... makes them stick together as those scales hook on each other. There is no waxy coating to help smooth down scales on damaged hair shafts - that's where the conditioner comes in. The conditioner helps relax the hairs and lay down the scales on the shaft (without forcing them like wax). The conditioner needs to be left on for at least a minute, two is better. As the hair becomes actually healthier over time, the scales on the shaft are healthier and flatter naturally. No wax or other chemical relaxers are needed to make the hair look healthy (without actually being healthy).

All in theory, of course. I giess I should do some experimenting and look at the hairs under a microscope.
