Be annoying! You are looking for a companion that will be with you for hopefully 15 years!

The breeder should be just as annoying. A reputable breeder will ask you all sorts of questions about your lifestyle, ask for references, etc. Reputable breeders are very picky about where their puppies go. If she isn't asking you lots of questions, it's another red flag that she may just be in it for the money.
