Actually the crate is working out much better than the ex-pen. The ex-pen gives him too much room to play. He cries for about 20 minutes and goes to sleep in his crate. We only had one issue
I have a soft, thick blankie in there from him to lay on. Well, he was digging and digging and spinning and spinning and it formed a cast around his front leg and looked like he was stuck, immobile in the blanket. Always something. I haven't seen too much limping during walking in about 2 days. However, I did see him limp for a few minutes last night at 3am when he needed to go potty. I'm guessing maybe he was just stiff from laying.
