Guilty mom! Here is the story: Melanie is 16 months old, until she was about 10 months old she was not allowed on furniture, then she started jumping on the couch and likes to sleep in my dining chairs, since she is too cute to be reprimanded she got away with that.
During her first year she would sleep in her crate, then she started leaving her crate during the night and would sleep in a comfy chair I have by my bed, when we were sleeping she would jump on the bed, we would take her down and she would jump up again, DH went away to work overseas from May until 2 weeks ago, and during this time I allowed her in bed with me.
For some stupid reason I put the crate away and of course my bed became her bed. Now DH is back and for sanitary reasons don't wanna her sleeping with us (he loves her deeply, is just his preference), I thought I would easily put her on her chair and that she would stay, she stays until we fall asleep then moves to the bed (funny thing is that she likes to sleep by DH's legs LOL). I actually think that if we had only her, we would just leave it alone and let her sleep with us.
Now we are getting a new puppy and I can't have two yorkies in bed with us. I I feel I can't let one and not the other. So last night I decided to put the crate out again for her to get used to it, so I put her pillow, blanket and water, she went in on her own and was hanging out in there. Once I shut the lights off the crying started. BAD SAD HEART BREAKING CRYING. (was a little funny too because it was so dramatic LOL). I ignored, she would stop a little bit and start again, I could not sleep because she was crying and because I felt guilty since is all my fault.
I don't wanna her to be unhappy, feel neglected or traumatized. Did anyone here had done that? Like went off the crate, then went back to it? She used to love her crate... now this. This morning her blanket was on top of the water bowl, that's how mad she was. But after breakfast she wet back to the crate and stayed in therte until before I left the house and the door was open...
Any ideas?
