Oxytocin from what I understand is used if the water has broken and the contractions have not started. IMO, I would not give it to her at the beginning of labor. Yes, I've heard that you give it to them to contract out any afterbirths or pieces that may be left. I've heard of breeders keeping a stock on hand...but you'd have to check with the more seasoned breeders.
