I've not had great experiences with vets and food. In the horse world they are the same. The vets are "sponsored" or get commission on the food they sell. They support major brands like purina, science diet, etc. It's awful, but also remember at the end of the day they are not nutritionalists. I would recommend getting a nutrition book, or even if there is one available by a non-sponsored nutrition course.
I've also heard of vets, who have been accused of (can't verify if this is true) that at the end of the day they are making money off the sick dogs, so why would you promote foods that prevent that (I know some people are really sick...).
