I think it all depends on how the 2 girls like each other. Plenty of people have 2 female dogs that get along great.
Some things you can do to help the situation: 1.) Introduce them slowly and carefully (there are a lot of great websites on first time introduction), 2.) Definitely get both spayed, 3.) Don't neglect Melanie or favor the new puppy so she doesn't get jealous- give her lots of attention and praise and she wont feel replaced, 4.) Feed them separately so there aren't fights over food, 5.) Give them each their own space (separate crates or beds that are just theirs) and toys and bowls.
In the beginning these things are most important. After they get used to each other and know that they are both equally important, it should be fine. Good luck! |
