I think in most newer cars, the passenger side airbags will turn off if the weight in the seat is under a certain amount...I believe it is as a protection to kids under a certain weight limit. You should be able to read about it in your user manual.
I know in my car, if the sensors in the passenger side sense there is something in the passenger seat under,
I think, 45 lbs, a light comes on saying airbags are off.
So, you could maybe feel somewhat more comfortable if you knew this was the case with your car and you had a passenger side booster seat, rather than a console seat. Although I know backseat is probably safest. (My dog gets sad back there too....he lives for his "rides").
