Sounds more like a small puppymill
Glad that you followed your instincts and got away from there and quick. IMO a BYBer would at least keep their dogs inside their home and they would be part of their family. Still making money off them and breeding for the wrong reasons. In my mind a puppymill is exactly what you described. The woman's dogs are not even part of her family~just out in the backyard in an outbuilding breeding and making money. That is a puppymill!
Did you happen so see the undercover puppymill investigation on Animal Planet? Very eye opening.
