I don't think little Ashley could have had it any better... your love for her is so evident in all you did for her.

I too am making notes as Peek a Boo will be 14 in December. I find myself watching him more and more daily for any changes. He's like a little eating machine, head in the bowl till it's all gone! He takes a bit longer for lack of many teeth but he does such a good job! He loves his walks, but I did purchase a stroller for him, and he loves riding in it. I wanted to get him used to it before he actually needs it.

And your post about tipping the bowls brought back a moment of horror for me. At the time, we had a Maltese and a GSD, along with Yorkie Sophie Anne. I had always used a large sized water bowl to accomodate them all. One day I was watching Sophie get a drink when she lost her balance and her head into the water and went under. She couldn't get her front legs under her to get herself up and out, and I flew over to her and helped her out. She was shaken but fine. I lowered the water level in the bowl until I could buy smaller bowls to put down for them. Thank God I was there watching her when that happened!

So with our older dogs, you may have to reevaluate everything for safety issues.
Thank you so much for what you wrote. We constantly were learning things as we went along with Ashley. Ashley's bowls were small, and she always loved sticking her face in the water bowl. I wouldn't have realized the dangers of a larger bowl, and you must have been terrified. I'm sorry you experienced that.

I tried to follow him for a little while on Saturday, but he wouldn't pee with me standing over him. Then on Sunday, he was having so much fun that I didn't have the heart to interrupt him. I'll get the sample somehow, it just might take me a couple of days.
When I was at the doctor with Ashley, I helped someone with a Yorkie get a urine sample with her little boy. As soon as it looked like he had to urinate, she slipped a disposable pee pad under him, and then we just transferred the urine to a sterilized cup.

You're too sweet! I think alot of what we Yorkie owners do for our little ones goes a bit 'outside the box' if you will... but only we, as owners, know what we have gotten in return! I also plan to steal some of your ideas for when I am nursing my oldster... so I can add to my list of things I never mention to the General Public! (Ha, I know... it's there now!)

And you know... what one does for their pets is such a personal thing, and the fact that you constantly questioned yourselves shows that you were more in tune to Ashley's needs... but it is a very fine balance, and until one receives a sign of sorts, one cannot know for sure if that time has come. Especially with old dogs, who knows them better than their owners?

Another horrible thing happened to me tonight... While walking Peek A Boo for his nightly wee, he started being freaky about the road. So I'm watching him and he's walking all off to one side then the other and really being weird. So not to prolong the drama... I realized he just figured out the road was different.... it had been repaved a year ago, so it's still all nice and new. Normally he walks with 1-3 of his friends, who must distract him enough to where he never noticed the road was repaved.... when we returned to the yard his confidence returned and he seems fine...
Or early onset of CCD?
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you. I agree with what Bonny said. It was probably something different for him, and as they age, I think they feel more comforted to follow more similar routines. The fact that he seemed fine when he returned is good. Ashley wasn't exploring like she had, and although I could tell she enjoyed walking and being outside, it was almost her just walking because she was just doing it repetitively. Once the Anipryl started to work, there was a huge difference in how she stopped to smell things and explore her surroundings.
