First of all, the best part is Skype is totally free and takes less than 5 minutes to sign up. It allows you to speak with another person who has Skype, and if you have a camera for your pc, you can see and speak to each other. I got it when my son went to China last year. We were able to talk and see each other, for free!!!! He showed me his hotel room, and some sites outside his hotel window via Skype. It's almost like being there.
(I first heard about Skype on Oprah, she uses it all of the time with guests who can't come to her studio.

They do have options that you have to pay for, but I have never used those. We got my mom a pc camera so that we can see and talk to each other. I absolutely love Skype! My husband and I use it all of the time if one of us is out of town.
