They can only gain weight if you are not regulating the amount of food they eat. Pebbles was spayed at 5 months and never gained any weight other that becoming an adult dog. The vet said the she is the perfect weight. Bogey did gain but I was overfeeding and didn't even now it. I also has a senior foster and what he didn't eat Bogey would gobble down too. So I changed food to NB Lamb and Brown Rice and cut back the amount to 1/4 cup twice a day. He lost all the extra weight and looks great now!

Sandysbabies Kayla is suppose to weigh 4lbs. After surgery she is now 9lbs., but she is also a little piggie. Dudley is still 4lbs., no change. Tina gained just a little bit, she weighs about 10lbs. (toy schnauzer) Lexi is the one I worry about most. (mini schnauzer)She is suppose to weigh 13lbs. at the most. She weighs 29lbs. She eats no more than the rest. I feed my schnauzers the same amount as my yorkies, only Dudley, because he is sooooo little. Schnauzers, espically females are prone to diabetes and I just don't know what to do about Lex. I have had a male in the past that lived 2yrs. after being diagnosed with diabetes, so it really worries me about her. I am thinking seriously about putting her on the tread mill. I know the breeder would have a heartattack if he seen her. He shows them and feeds prescription Royal Canine to keep down fat in their food. Yours may not gain at all. I guess it just has to do with the individual dog because to me Lexi just doesn't eat that much. Good luck with your little one.

Just a quick look at what you are saying~3 of your 4 have a weight issue. I am going to guess that you are either overfeeding kibble and/or giving too many treats. If you are free feeding that is probably a large part of your weight issues. I am just curious how much you feed Lexi? If you are correct she is more than twice the weight she should be

At 13 lbs and if she is on a premium dog food that is low in fat 1/4 cup (maybe even a few pieces less) twice a day should be plenty. All of mine are in the 11 lbish range and that is what they eat. Cut out all the treats and cut way back on the food and they will get back to where they belongs. Good luck.
