I took my 4 year old yorkie to his vet after I noticed a swelled purple lump, which seemed to be his anal gland. Our vet said it was indeed an abscessed gland, and she had to lance it and remove the liquid and discharge. It's been about two hours now, and although it has calmed down, I think it's still bleeding a bit. I went and got him doggy diapers, and can see the blood being soaked up. I'm not sure if it's good to keep it "unbreathable," but he was trying to lick it. I have a cone to use for him, and I may if needed, but he's just resting right now.

My question is, how long after did your little one bleed? Did you do anything in particular afterwards? I did come home and clean it with a warm compress (which the vet said I should be doing twice a day for awhile), and I will give him his antibiotics with dinner soon.
