Dogs can be entered in an AKC sanctioned dog show as young as 6mo. old. To become a champion the dog must earn 15 pts. But they also have to get 2 majors from 2 different judges. A major is won by beating a certain no. of dogs in the ring, all the same breed of course. There are 3, 4, or 5 pt. majors. Depending on the breed of dog,(ex. Golden Retriever may have to beat 15 dogs to get a 3 pt. major) In Yorkies a female has to beat 2 other females to get one point in certain parts of the country.
