I've had 3 Maltese and 3 Yorkies, and they are quite different in temperament. While Maltese are energetic as puppies, they don't tend to be as energetic as Yorkies. My Maltese's didn't have a dominant bone in their bodies, while terriers will try to run the house. Expect your Yorkie to be alpha, and the Maltese to be perfectly content being the "underdog." Terriers just have stronger personalities.
