I beleive it is safe to say that you are in a class all by yourself. I use the Dyson sometimes, and I love looking at what it sucks up, sort of instant gratifucation, but when it becomes the main excitement of the day, I will find another hobby. As far as the white powder, it is comong from one of your rugs where the fibers are breaking down. Kist list up the corner of the rugs, and look under them and you will see the powdery substance. We only had one 6x8 that did that. Fortunately, it was in my wifes office, and not mine.
