You can buy ex-pens that are 36" high. They usually come with plastic caps that are about 4" long that are applied to the top of each section at the folding point to keep it from folding in out out. We have also used a trellis channel to place over the entire length of the ex-pen to keep it rigid. Alternately you can also use a 2"x8" base with a grove in it where you set the ex-pen about 1/2" deep into the wood. If you don't have a router to make the groove, then use two strips of 1/2" by whatever length you need to create the channel to hold the ex-pen secure on each side. That will give it stability and make it easier to move. We have used trellisses as well in the past but they are not as attractive as an ex-pen. For a large area like yours you will need some type of mechanism on each side to keep it attached to the wall to ensure safety. Metal hooks that you screw into the wall works well.
