At the last second, a woman driving a van went around stopped cars and hit the poor dog and took off. It was the most horrific sound. Everyone watching screamed. I completely forgot about my own safety and ran across the street.
I cradled the dog in my arms and could feel his heart beating, but I knew he had extensive head injuries. The tears were flowing down my cheeks as I stroked his soft hair and said over and over, "I'm so sorry baby."
A man agreed to drive the dog to the nearest vet office, my former vet. I'll skip what happened there and simply say that I am glad that this person is my former vet. The little black dog was put to sleep. No collar or tags, no microchip.
I am sick to my stomach and still crying. |
Oh my how very awful. So sorry for that poor pup, but glad that you and others tried to help ease his pain, and got him to the vets.
