So, my experience has been that you can get great color using a lighter dog. I'd like to see it happen more often, and that's (hopefully) something I can attain in the future. I don't see that you have to be breeding only the ideal color to be breeding for standard, as I think has been implied here. And, even if you do, there's no guarantee that every pup will be that ideal color. Wouldn't it be nice if that were so.....
I've seen it come up from a grand parent, just like it can disappear from a strong parent. It's difficult.
