My guess would be somewhere around 10-20 %.
Most breeders are not going to discard a nice soft black or light blue if they have great pedigrees, health and meet the standard in every other way except for color.
We know the only way light blues can meet the standard is to dye the dog but what about the soft blacks ?
Can you dye a black coat to meet the standard ? |
But there is a HUGE difference....a lighter yorkie isn't a Parti and not being bred to be a "Parti". A lighter yorkie is NOT a DQ in the show ring but a Parti color is....
As for coloring I couldn't tell ya the % of show exhibitors that do it. I hear how to dye the lighter yorkie but I have no clue or heard how to make a black yorkie lighter. I"m not a hair colorist.
And again, Parti's are a DQ in the show ring but a lighter blue yorkie or even a black yorkie isn't a DQ for the show ring LOL...the DQ targets the Parti color and then it's left up to the judges as to DQ or dismiss something other than the Parti.
