We feed her let her out for an hour or so before we go to work and she cries and cries. I come home for lunch and she's crying. We put one of my daughters shirts on top of the crate so she could smell it but it didn't help we even put classical music next to her. I came home and put her outside so she could pee and she was HOWLING. We've only had her 2 days and already the neighbors have complained. I feel bad for her but I just don't know what else to do give her time but I don't think my neighbors will appreciate that. We have a big yard so you can imagine how loud she cries and howls that they can hear her.
It sounds like you are leaving her in a crate all night, and also all day while you're at work?? Is that right? 1st of all, that is WAY too long for a 12 wk old baby to be in a crate If that's right, could you maybe try baby gating the laundry room or bathroom--any smallish room without carpet--and keeping pads down, as well as water, food (a puppy should have access to food and water and somewhere to potty at ALL times!!), toys, bed, etc... I have a 12 wk old (born 6/19/10), but I'm home with her all day. Back when we got my 1st Yorkie (Bella), I worked, but my bf was home all day until she was 4 1/2 mo old, and after that he was only gone for a few hrs at a time. Just so you know, she howled and cried and screamed ALL NIGHT LONG for weeks and weeks on end. She NEVER got used to sleeping in a crate, no matter what technique we tried...comforting, ignoring, etc... We ended up allowing her to sleep in a bed next to our bed, and she did much better that way...and she'd use the pad we put there with her during the night. Is the crate next to your bed? They seem to do better if they know you're near. Also, she could be crying when you go out because she's not used to going outside in the grass at all yet (Maya wasn't, so the 1st few trips out were a little scary for her, but I spoke to her in a sweet comforting voice and encouraged her to explore a bit...she never did cry though, just unsure and jumpy). Phew, you have your work cut out for you, I feel for you! I remember how hard it was with Bella...all that crying...we truly didn't sleep FOR WEEKS!
