Why is Phoebe itching/scratching/biting herself? So a couple of weeks ago we noticed that Phoebe was scratching one of her ears pretty badly and was itching parts of her body. Took her to the vet and turns out she had an ear infection and she was prescribed ear drops. That was really the major focus the other itching wasn't too much of an issue then. So now her ear is fine but she is constantly scratching the back of her legs and down towards her tail on the sides. Her skin is starting to get irritated and red. So I called the vet today and they prescribed Hydroxyzine and Omega Tri-V capsules. My concern is what is causing this in the first place?? Since the vet just saw her a couple of weeks ago and knew what she was suffering from already we didn't go in for a visit the vet just prescribed these two things. We are going to give it a week and see if there is improvement? What could it be? I have read food allergy. She eats Solid Gold Just a wee bit formula Bison mixed with Halo spots stew beef. She has been eating the Solid gold for almost 2 years and the Halo for a few months (she likes beef protein foods the best). Could she all of a sudden developed a food allergy? No stomach issues going on...She hasn’t been fed anything new. She is on Flea and Tick treatment and I haven't seen any fleas? She has never had allergies before could it be the change in weather or the time of year? Or could this have something to do with the bacterial ear infection that she was just treated for? I live in the Boston area....Any help would be appreciated....Thanks in Advance ~Bonnie & Phoebe |
