I was at home. I was recovering from gallbladder surgery and I was on pain medication. I was in bed and turned the tv on and the first tower had just been hit like a couple of minutes before. I remember thinking I was dreaming or the drugs were playing tricks on me. It was so strange.
My boss called a few hours later to let me know they were closing the facility for the day. Our headquarters are in NYC and they basically closed all of our facilities everywhere!
I was glued to the tv since I was bedridden anyway for days.
I went to NYC for the first time four years ago and I think my friend and I were about a block or so from Ground Zero and I couldn't really see anything yet, but I just started crying and there were so many people there and everyone was crying and silent. It was the day after a memorial of the fireman's wall. It's something I will never forget my entire life. Seeing things on tv and then seeing the site and the magnitude of the size of it all is overwhelming! |
