Question about pet insurance claims? The other night we took our boy to the after hours vet for a possible seizure. We think that is what is was anyway...horrible! Well, the vet thought did some blood work and a bile acid test and other things because we wanted to rule out a liver shunt. I received the bill yesterday and on the diagnosis it says Porto-caval liver shunt-suspected....thankfully, all the tests were normal and Jax does not have a liver shunt at this time but on the invoice, this is the diagnosis listed. My question is with VPI, I know they do not cover congenital defects so I am worried to send this invoice in even though is says liver shunt suspected. Should I ask my vet to change this to be safe? I mean, we aren't cheating the system because he doen't have a liver shunt but I don't know what other diagnosis we would put to be careful. Would a seizure be considered congenital as well? Any helpful advice would be appreciated because this is why I got insurance and I don't want to be stuck with this $400 bill! Thanks!
