Willow is 21 mos and I just recently have gotten her pad trained well enough to let her have full run of the house. She is too little to do stairs but she can go all over the first floor. I had to restrict her to the kitchen and den for mos several times before she finally "got it". She would do OK for days then I would find an accident. I was beginning to wonder if she would ever learn to go back to the pad regardless of where she was when she got the urge. Chloe was completely trained at 4 mos and I guess I was expecting the same thing with Willow but it didn't work out that way. I think pad trained dogs are harder to train because they never learn to hold it, they can go whenever they want. For me tho, at least with these two, pads are the only option. Good luck, it takes a lot of time with some dogs.
