I think in young puppies they always flash blue, so I don't think you can tell that young. But I have also noticed that silky hair seems to grow much slower than cottony coats. for example, Uni (silky coat) she still had her thumbprints (I called it her racing stripe) between the eyes until she was about 2 1/2 years. I've noticed that cottony coats grow out the thumbprints and have an entirely gold head earlier on. This has just been my observation though. Don't know if there's any truth to it.
