I have all my girls in a puppy cut. Sometimes I will leave the face and topknot long..just depends. I am scared of them getting tangled in the hair. I have heard of some moms carring them off and dropping them in tangled hair. Mom's get so messy and stinky after whelping the short hair works for us better. With shorter hair I can see better whats going on during whelping. Also when the pups start getting older they seem to play with mom's hair and it gets really matted if you don't stay on top of it.
I shave the belly about 2 weeks before. If I do it then I don't have any problem with sticky hairs for the pups.
