i work a 9-5 job and i got my puppy when she was about 4 months old. the best situation for me was to get a gate to block off a small section of the room for maxi. that way she is still getting exercise and isnt' trapped in a crate all day long.. this also helped train her go on her wee wee pad. when it was warmer out, i used to walk her in the mornings before i went to work. as she got older, i would move the gate so her area gradually became larger.

when i used to let her run around the entire house, she would chew up all my shoes, papers, anything chewable! so you MUST baby-proof the house.
