I used to raise Bengal cats, which is an extremely active breed of cat and a scat mat saved our Christmas tree. I was always terrified that the cats would get hurt with the tinsel and other ornaments. Someone recommended a scat mat so we tried it. We were told to turn it on high, only while we were there with them and when they got used to it. The mat has a small clicking sound from the electric charge. It would only take one step and then they wouldn't go past the mat. Once they got used to the mat we had it on the lowest level and I could easily put my hand on it; It would give a very small tingle but nothing like a shock. The cats didn't step over it as they could still hear the clicking sound and knew it was turned on. I know I will get a lot of flack over this, but the scat mat really worked for us when nothing else did. Good luck with your training!
