7 hours after Brodie's surgery began I finally got a call about my pup. He had a very big day... they performed a cystonomy to remove a large and small urate stone from his bladder and did a liver biopsy. Following this they checked Brodies liver shunt. They "closed" the shunt and Brodie immediately went into portal hypertension (within 10 seconds). It was determined that ligation was not an option for Brodie - even partial. Since his symptom from the shunt is production of urate stones they went ahead and performed a scrotal urethrostomy. Brodie was initially having trouble breathing on his own postoperatively, but is now doing so just fine. He is going to be monitored at Cornell and should be able to come home sometime this weekend. He will have to remain on LD Diet with low protein snacks and may have to go on medication as well to medically manage his condition as they couldn't "fix" it.
I am so relieved my little one is okay and coming home soon! |
