I wouldn't go off of the "name" sizes, rather I would use the dimensions.

A small in one brand, may not be a small in another brand. Whereas a large in one brand may actually be a small in another.

If you let me know what dimensions you need, I can help suggest a brand/size, etc.

I also wouldn't worry as much as how much weight the carrier can handle unless your dog is the upper end of it. If you need a carrier that is 12" long and holds dogs up to 15lbs, I would be worry about the length rather than the weight. The weight just means that it can hold a dog up to that weight and not break.
